SIX FEET UNDER “Next to Die”

Next To Die, Six Feet Under reaches a fresh creative peak, marking their 15th studio outing since their 1995 debut, Haunted. The album’s twelve tracks are strategically split between two sonic pillars—Death and Groove—creating a balanced masterwork that satisfies the band’s artistic evolution while catering to every era of their fanbase. To capture the record’s raw brutality, frontman Chris Barnes returned to the iconic Criteria Recording Studios in Miami. Reaching back into his history, Barnes collaborated once again with veteran engineer Chris Carroll.

This is an absolute powerhouse of a record. The post-Torment lineup has evolved into a formidable force, delivering a sound that successfully channels the spirit of their early classics. There are no gimmicks, no grating vocal tics, and no unnecessary classic rock covers—just well-crafted, infectious songwriting packed with standout leads and anthemic choruses. (Seriously, “Mutilated Corpse in the Woods” is an unexpectedly fun sing-along).

The production is a breath of fresh air: organic, raw, and featuring a drum sound that actually feels real. You won’t find any over-compressed, sterile “big label” polish here. This is a genuine Album of the Year contender.
