In This Moment – Witch – 2026

In This Moment frontwoman Maria Brink describes the band’s ninth album, Witch, as an exploration of duality. This theme comes through not only in the record’s blend of heavy and delicate moments—ranging from the aggressive nu-metal of “Shame” and the industrial groove of “Crawl” to the dramatic sweep of “Into the Dark” and the closing piano ballad “Something I Can Never Have”—but also in her choice of collaborators. Dayseeker vocalist Rory Rodriguez shares the mic on “I Want to Believe,” Australian internet personality Kim Dracula appears on “Heretic,” and celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D joins her for a contemporary take on Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall”.

While the high-energy tracks and ambitious swings lean heavily into the theatrical, gothic metal identity the band has spent two decades cultivating, some of the quieter, atmospheric stretches occasionally slow the momentum. Even so, when Witch hits its stride, it successfully alchemizes vulnerability and aggression into a bold, dark statement.

Evolution Through the Years: The In This Moment Discography

  • Beautiful Tragedy (2007): The debut album introduced the band as a metalcore and melodic metal outfit, heavily driven by aggressive riffs, dual-guitar harmonies, and Maria Brink’s versatile mix of screams and clean singing.
  • The Dream (2008): A sharp pivot toward hard rock and alternative metal. Stripping away most of the heavy screams, the record leaned on a clean, atmospheric, and commercial sound, highlighted by the breakout radio single “Forever.”
  • A Star-Crossed Wasteland (2010): A deliberate return to a heavier, crunchier guitar-driven metal sound while retaining the polished hooks of The Dream, anchored by tracks like “The Gun Show” and “The Promise”.
  • Blood (2012): The turning point for the band’s modern identity. Blood introduced a darker, industrial-laced theatricality, anchored by heavy grooves, provocative themes, and massive anthems like “Blood” and “Whore”.
  • Black Widow (2014): Expanding on the dark carnival/cabaret aesthetic of Blood, this album deepened the electronic and industrial production textures with heavy tracks like “Sick Like Me” and “Big Bad Wolf”.
  • Ritual (2017): A shift toward a rootsier, blues-infused occult rock and metal atmosphere. It dialed back some frantic industrial beats in favor of a moody, witchy, and hypnotic sonic landscape (featuring hits like “Oh Lord”).
  • Mother (2020): A spiritual successor to Ritual, blending heavy groove metal with deeply personal, empowering lyrical themes about sisterhood, inner strength, and mysticism, alongside a cover of Queen’s “We Will Rock You”.
  • Godmode (2023): A punchy, electronically driven record that sharpened their industrial edge, focusing on heavy rhythms, digital manipulation, and empowering heavy anthems.
  • Witch (2026): Their ninth full-length continues to refine their signature blend of gothic grandeur, aggressive modern metal, and stark vulnerability, leaning heavily into a collaborative spirit.
