1. To kick things off: Tell our audience a bit about the origin story of your Band.
New Sun was formed in northern Italy. It all started with guitarist Lorenzo, who was trying to create a band without any genre. It was supposed to be metal, but the idea was to first put together a similar lineup, and then the sound and genre would emerge from there. Thanks to the grooves of Mattia Z. on bass and other members at the time, the band was starting to take shape. There were a couple of lineup changes until the current one arrived, with a new drummer thanks to Mattia B. and Alex’s new voice. Everyone has different tastes in metal, and this created and shaped the New Sun sound and style.
2. Tell us about your new project?
The main themes are undoubtedly rebirth and self-awareness; it’s a journey through fears and reactions, between failure and realization. We want to convey, through our music, what so many have in their minds but don’t want to say or are afraid to face…
3. If you had to describe the sound of your Band to someone who hasn’t heard you yet: What would you say?
Very difficult question! We had a lot of difficulty defining ourselves. Now we are in the midst of a wave of modern and extreme metal, we wink in this direction but not too much, we care a lot about the metal of a couple of decades ago, but we don’t want to be “obvious”, we believe we have found a good balance between the two worlds in which we are able to express ourselves very well!
4. How has the songwriting evolved with the band over the years? What does that process look like for you lately?
It all starts in the rehearsal room, with a convincing riff, and we begin to outline a structure. Then, as other parts of the song emerge, we begin to define the theme to discuss, and everything begins to take shape. Most of the definition happens at home, assembling the pieces like a pre-production.p
5. Outside of metal, what books, Video Games, movies, or life events leave a mark on your music?
When I think of musical themes, Oblivion and the various GTAs come to mind for video games, Jurassic Park and the like for short books. For films, maybe Memento or Lord of the Rings.
6. What are some of the recurring themes or messages you find yourself exploring in your lyrics?
Certainly a sense of rebirth, and of seeking a certain sense of belonging in the world as we face life and all the challenges it presents us. We try to express that sense of wanting to be part of the world as individuals, not as numbers.
7. What is one song you’ve written that you feel captures the absolute core identity of the band?
Absolutely Drag Me Down, our latest creation. It’s the most fun to play and the most emotionally heartfelt.
8. Do you find your energy translates better in an intimate club style venue or a massive festival setting?
Despite the many facets I think we have a lot of groove and death metal in our sound, small clubs are fun but we will perform much better on a big stage.
9. Which Artists or Band inspired you to be in a Band?
For many of us, Metallica and Slipknot are at the top of the list, but we can also add Tool, Gojira, Trivium, Mastodon and Iron Maiden.
10. If you could sit down and collaborate with any Artist or Band right now, who would be at the top of your list and Why?
the first names that come to mind would be Metallica Trivium and Gojira.
11. What’s the current Pulse of the Metal Scene from your perspective?
So many subgenres are exploding, sometimes it seems like a competition to differentiate oneself rather than to make music, but by doing so, further inspirations are created, the current scene is very interesting.
12. Are there any endorsements or gear brands you’re currently working with that you’d like to shout out?
Not for now, but who knows in the future
13. What does your tour calendar look like? Any big shows or festivals we should be made aware of?
We’re still finalizing it, but for now, we’re hosting a charity event on September 5th at Grindhouse in Padua, featuring a ton of cool bands like DeafBit and DeadFall to help fund cancer research. It’s called METAL AGAINST CANCER. We’re incredibly honored to be a part of such a noble cause.
14. What is your very first Metal album you ever bought ?
Probably Metallica’s Black Album or one of Nirvana’s as a placebo, I can’t remember exactly now.
15. What was the very first metal concert you ever went to?
Many in small pubs, perhaps the first ever was Amon Amarth in 2008
16. What is your LinkTree or Online Link ?
