Interview with RedShark

(1) Could you tell our readers about your band? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.? Yes, of course. First of all, thank you very much for the interview. Redshark was originally founded in 2012 by myself, but it wasn’t until 2019 that the lineup we know today really came together. We are a Heavy/Speed Metal band. We’d love to call ourselves a US Metal band, but since we’re not American, that wouldn’t really make sense. What does make sense is that our influences clearly come from bands like Metal Church, Savatage, Vicious Rumors, Agent Steel, Crimson Glory, Exciter, and Judas Priest. We’re set to release our second full-length album, titled “Sudden Impact”, in 2025. As the name suggests, it’s going to be a record packed with powerful songs that capture the anthemic spirit of the ’80s metal sound we love.

(2) Which bands do you idolize and where do you get your inspiration? Basically, the ones we already mentioned, Vicious Rumors, Savatage, Metal Church, Exciter, Judas Priest… We’re also really into darker metal like Mercyful Fate or King Diamond (you can clearly hear that in some of our riffs and solos) or we love extreme metal, for example, we’re big fans of Death, Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Cruel Force… Of course, we’re huge fans of music in general. We listen to Rock ‘n’ Roll from the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, Pop, Electronic music, Punk… We take inspiration from our favorite metal bands, but we also believe it’s important to be inspired by artists from other genres. That allows us to bring in ideas that you wouldn’t normally hear in metal, ideas that push boundaries and keep things fresh. And another important source of inspiration, and we don’t mean this in an egotistical way, quite the opposite, is ourselves. What I mean is, for me, it’s essential for a band to be self-critical, to analyze what it has done well and what it hasn’t. A lot of great ideas come from that, from strengthening our best qualities and improving our weaknesses.

(3) Who came up with the album cover?. The cover of “Sudden Impact” had to be striking, so we wanted to pay tribute to the artwork of “City’s Gonna Burn” by Lääz Rockit, as well as include a nod to the fist from Judas Priest’s “Ram It Down”. For this occasion, we worked with Stanislav Atanasov, who did a great job bringing our vision to life.

(4) Who wrote the lyrics for your album, how did they come to be? Pau wrote most of the lyrics for this album. We wanted to create a stronger sense of identity and cohesion compared to our previous work, and this time the shark symbol was once again used as a narrative thread to explore powerful themes like instinct, transformation, and survival. From the beginning, Pau wanted the songs to feel iconic and meaningful, with tracks like Beware of the Shark fully capturing our raw, direct energy. While the whole band contributed to the sound and dynamics, he focused on the lyrics to ensure every word supported the concept and added depth to the overall message. Some songs also explore more introspective themes, offering a broader emotional range we hadn’t fully explored on Digital Race.

(5) Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks?  The new logo was created by Logan from Thrashwolf. It was necessary to improve our logo, as the previous one looked very poor on posters. We wanted it to be based on the old one but with more details and a more elaborate design. The old one was just too simple. As for sound matters, we’ve always handled it within the band, and we try to be as “real” as possible. We hate the modern world and the matrix. But hey, we have to adapt if we want people to listen to us.

(6) How many Shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether (Venues or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

We’ve played a lot of shows. We’ve performed throughout most of Spain, as well as in France or Germany. We’d love to reach more countries. For a Spanish band, it’s tough to break into the international market, especially if you’re not from Central Europe, where the countries with the biggest audiences are. It requires a lot of effort to get booked. But it’s not impossible!

As for festivals, we have great memories from our last tour with international bands. We played Rock Imperium in 2023, and opened for Riot V and Exciter, which was a huge honor for us.

We like both formats. We get more out of club shows because the audience comes specifically to see us. However, playing festivals is also very rewarding because it gives us the chance to gain new fans. Whenever we play live, our goal is to offer the best possible show.

(7) who came up with the name of the album? This album had to start with an “S”, since we had already written out “RED” with the initials of our previous works. And since this is the album with the most powerful songs we’ve ever written, we thought this title perfectly captures its content. That’s right, this record is 100% our style, but with the most explosive riffs and the most powerful choruses we’ve ever done. That was the intention.

(8) How and where can your fans contact you? Can you provide some contact information? Of course! Here are the direct links for anyone who wants to follow what we’re up to:
