(1) Could you tell our readers about your band Thron? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?
THRON was founded back in 2015 in the Black Forest region of southern Germany. We play a mix of melodic black metal and progressive metal with a strong traditional heavy metal influence. Think old-school vibes with a modern edge — melodic but still raw and aggressive. Over the years, our sound has evolved quite a bit, but the core idea has always been the same: dark, powerful, majestic, and unique.
(2) Which bands or artists inspired you to play music?
There are tons, honestly. Early influences came from bands like Dissection, Emperor, Bathory, and Mercyful Fate, but also from classic acts like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. We’ve always been into that mix of melody and intensity — that’s something we try to carry forward in our own music.
(3) Who came up with the album Vurias cover?
The artwork was created by Daniele Valeriani, who has worked for bands like Mayhem, Dark Funeral, Candlemass, and Dissection. The image already existed before we started working on the album — we instantly felt it perfectly captured the spirit and atmosphere of Vurias. Daniele doesn’t take commissions at the moment, but we were lucky enough to get permission to use the piece. It fits the record’s mood in an almost prophetic way.
(4) Who wrote the lyrics for your new album, and how did they come to be?
Most of the lyrics were written by me (PVIII). I tend to draw inspiration from mythology, philosophy, and the darker side of human nature. With Vurias, the lyrics are a reflection on destruction, rebirth, and transcendence — both personal and universal. It’s about transformation through fire, chaos, and clarity.
(5) Who created the logo for the band, and who takes care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks?
The THRON logo was designed by a very talented artist from Italy who works under the name View From The Coffin. He’s done artwork for many underground bands. We wanted something classic yet sinister. The website was created by DAAAWG from Turkey. Our singer Samca is responsible for the graphics and layout. As for socials, we’re active on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Bandcamp, Threads, and Spotify, keeping fans up to date on new releases, shows, and behind-the-scenes stuff.
(6) How many shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer — venues or festivals — and which of your performances would you consider the best?
We’ve played a fair amount of shows all across Europe — from small, sweaty club gigs to bigger festivals. Both have their charm, honestly. Clubs are more intimate and raw; festivals are huge and energetic. One highlight was definitely playing Hellfest in France, but also big festivals like Summer Breeze and Party.San Open Air.
(7) Who came up with the name of the new album?
The name Vurias was created by the band. It’s derived from the Latin word Furias, meaning “the Furies” — ancient deities of vengeance and transformation. We replaced the “F” with a “V” to mark our fifth album. So Vurias symbolizes both fury and evolution — a perfect reflection of where THRON stands right now.
(8) Can you tell us about the single The Hunter and the Prey?
The Hunter and the Prey is one of the key tracks from Vurias. It’s about the duality that exists in all of us — the predator and the victim, light and darkness, control and chaos. That duality also comes through in the arrangement: on one side it feels shamanic, archaic, and ritualistic; on the other, there’s a strong urban vibe with the use of synthesizers and saxophone. Musically, it’s intense and dynamic, with strong melodic hooks. We’re really proud of how it turned out.
