(1) Could you tell our readers about your band Küntsquäd ? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?
Küntsquäd (pron : Kountskard) a 4 piece Melbourne band from Australia, formed in 2017 and comprised of:
Paula VC Damnzal (guitar, throat, songwriter)
Brett Eldridge (bass guitar)
Adam Holmes (drums)
Nikronomicon Satanik (lead guitar)
The members are experienced musicians from other previous high profile band projects and have a collection of musical and visual releases through these numerous other works. Since its inception the band have undertaken quite rigorous gigging and touring schedules and played shows and festivals both locally and across the east coast cities of Australia.
Our aim is to tour overseas in the near future to further solidify the progress made via the two CD releases since signing with Wormholedeath Worldwide. The band is currently managed by Michael Lueders of Black-Roos Entertainment.
The band is best described as crusty death metal unit featuring unique gutturals from their female vocalist, with a soundscape that is heavily riff based offering a down tuned churn, interspersed with blast beats and fast paced
blackened interludes. Over the years the soundscape has evolved into a non generic blend of the extreme metal genres, which may include death/black/doom metal and crusty influences without really belonging to any of these genres. Lyrically, the band offers a decadent array of preposterously titled tunes with enough satirically charged minimalist content to drive that down tuned churn into chaos, but their purpose is distracting as the accompanying visuals (videos ) allude to …. the hidden intent of this content reveal a darker more sinister commentary on aspects of the world we live in.
(2) Which bands or artists inspired you to play music?
All our members have a healthy appetite for metal of various genres. Our collective influences are varied and extensive , ranging from grind, death, black, industrial and everything in between. A range of Artists from Sepultura, early Carcass, Last Days of Humanity, Emperor, Sadistik Exekution, Samael , Mortician.. to Iron Maiden, Toxic holocaust , Discharge and Rush..
(3) Who designs the single cover art?
Artwork:
The cover art is by Rok (Sad Ex). This is the second piece Rok has designed for us, he also designed the cover art for our debut album, so I think he has a great understanding of what we’re about as a band. When we approached him for this album, he was keen to know the title before commencing, so when we told him that it was to be ‘Satans Cock’, he was surprised, shocked and amused all at the same time. We knew he got it, in other words, he’s understood our intentions for it to be just that. It’s an intentionally provocative title and needed something equally provocative, but also quite derivative of the genre. The large appendage, that looks like it could be an entity all of its own, fittingly sets the tone for the dark satirical theme of this album. It was never intended to be pretty nor serious, but finding the balance could be tricky.. but Rok delivered the satanik member in spades and then some. It just so happens the piece is actually a painting,
(4) Who wrote the lyrics for your new music, how did they come to be?
Paula is the main songwriter and lyricist, with obvious contributions from the rest of the band…. Usually the songs presented are more or less structurally complete when I bring them into rehearsals, however with that said, there is always input sought from the rest of the band to explore or diversify which may include small changes, to make the final product something we’ve all had input in and own. The songs are always up for critical evaluation and any changes or tweaking is obviously intended to improve overall compositional interest, create space, and solidify the hooks or groove intended. The ideas are shared and ultimately any changes made , are achieved through both collective and individual input.
(5) Who created the logo for the band, and who takes care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks?
The logo was first conceptualized by Paula… DIY design in the early days. It then got a makeover by Rok for the debut album, and another makeover again prior to the Satans Cock release. This last incarnation is by an artist called Greatdismal , who has also designed some other bits and pieces in our collection .
As far as the website that is a combination of our management team and Paula. The socials are primarily controlled by the band, sometimes with input from others .
The graphics part is usually outsourced when needed, so that can be differing people, however depending on what is needed, the undertaking and approval of the work and its ideas primarily come from the band.. before being outsourced if needed.
(6) How many Shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether (Venues or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
We have lost count on the number of shows we have undertaken since Küntsquäd’s inception. We like the intimacy of club and pub gigs , but the intensity of a festival and the adrenaline rush of that is another level all together. We like to think we manage to win over a tough crowd, most often , because our live performances are often more extreme, brutal and chaotic than our recordings would suggest.
(7) Who came up with the name of the single, Genital Dismemberment Bot Cult?
Paula’s insane brain.. as one review described: quote

(8) Can you tell us about the new album ?
It’s an intentionally provocative title that fittingly sets the tone for the dark satirical theme of this album. It was never intended to be pretty nor too serious, but finding the balance could be tricky..
The recording process was very much a saga.. we went in initially to record 4 tracks, they sounded pretty ordinary and so we worked on the structures of those four, decided to drop tune further, revised some of our effects, and pretty much started all over again with the process. We were mindful to be more meticulous in our approach recording this time around. There were changes made after tracks were put down, and whole sections were restructured, reworked or tweaked and using standard protools, so that every bit of each song was scrutinised. This drove Jason Fuller (our engineer also in Bloodduster ) a bit batty… to the point where he felt it needed a fresh pair of ears to assist in achieving that elusive sound and production that seemed to evade us in the studio.. and in the past. So Jason bought in Jamie Colic, to do additional recordings and mixes of the final tracks. By the time this was done it was almost one year since beginning a second time. Two years since the first attempt, which we scrapped, and one month in for Nik our new lead guitarist to get his head around the material and put down the lead tracks . He stepped into the role quite suddenly and very late in the piece after all the tracks were laid down , which essentially meant that the band had been operating as a three piece since the departure of previous guitarist Steve (RIP)
In so far as the albums total of 10 tracks, we were very keen to bind them all with carefully curated samples, not unlike our debut record.. The overall satirical Satanic themes are emphasised by the purposefully placed samples, as being suggestive to the lyrical content and to lure the listener into a sense of mirth for what is really much darker subject matter lurking beneath the surface … and track titles, with enough satire to ensure even your goat is offended. Conceptually the thematics of the whole album is to ridicule the very thematics of the album.. if that makes sense, through its intent to be as ludicrous as possible with the titles, distracting from the true darkness of the content both sonically , lyrically and visually . Our YouTube videos bring an important visual prompt to the tracks and watching them is an integral part of digesting the content and adding some clarity to the questions asked via the lyrical and sonic scapes. They have been restricted, as one would expect as a consequence. Ultimately, ‘Satans Cock’, is the rebirth of Küntsquäd with renewed intensity and purpose to present an intensely heavy as fuck , nasty , crusty death metal album with a kink.
Breakdown of album tracks: lyrical intentions:
Piss n purge : is basically having a poke at the stereotypical ideology around the rockstar lifestyle, where consumerist habits end up in the vein, in the bowel, in the lungs, or all of the fore mentioned …. and then purged either through the mouth, through the bowels, through a lyrical tantrum or all of the above.
Satans cock: is a reference to the consumerist society we belong to and the constructs that purposefully encourages that ideology of consumption and productivity equaling fair and just rewards for our work… the systems perpetuate the false belief that productivity and success in sucking Satans cock is a tool that enables fair and just rewards, measured by acquisitions and status. Divide and conquer. An industrialized population is an enslaved one, where the cycles is endless and often meaningless, and the true worth of humanity is being exploited by the elite few. Ironically, we all suck satans cock We are blinded by our very acceptance and apathy, for want of a better existence and unquestionably accept this method of existence because we are blindly indoctrinated from the birth, into some holy crusade that does not benefit other elements of our humanity. The measure of our worth is merely numbers and commodities. … a desirable existence reinforced by all forms of commercial and social media, which satirically transfixes us all into some false belief that it is a just and worthy system that recompenses the individual who ‘works the hardest’ , when the reality is more so that we are condemned to a lifetime of entrapment, a means to an end. Working for the masters that be, to drive these cogs, is by its very nature, a paradoxical nightmare that only ends when we die.. or are left to consume more of pharmaceuticals to to ensure we stay sick before we die. One last hurrah for Satan!
Sucking Satans cock is a necessity, desirable, and encouraged. The objects of our affections are all to be found within these cycles of capitalist enrichment, where the ‘subservience’ is necessary, anything else is some conspiracy theorists delusion, an oxymoron, as we continue to sell our souls oblivious to the true agendas of the of masters of its churning machines.
Genital dismemberment bot cult : the end of humanity as the doomsday clock ticks incessantly towards the annihilation of the planet and all who have raped it into a catastrophic wasteland of consumerist greed. Our annihilation by the masters of our own invention created to serve and enrich us. The castration of humanity. We are vermin, deemed ignorant and willfully destructive, only worthy of extermination, culminating in an Extinction level event that finally terminate the rapists, but the uprising is inevitably met with an almost morbid curiosity, in seeking to understand the human psyche on its nihilistic trajectory. Inhabitants of a Post apocalyptic world and its altered sense of universe, become the perpetrators of renewed agendas of similar ambition to dominate and ultimately bearers of their own demise.. The universe always returns to chaos.
Fuck me jebus: a satirical poke at the institutions of religion and its rituals of sacrifice service and obedience. A play on the scene in “the Exorcist “ , where Reagan fucks herself with a crucifix. Another construct of intent to control and profit upon the weak, predatory indoctrination, often adopting the rhetoric of blind religious observance and faith as a desirable, chaste and worthy pathway in which we will achieve ultimate redemption and salvation for the gluttony of sins begotten by worshipping Satan’s cock.
Psychotropic Lyfe: essentially a song about substance use and abuse, and the role of big pharma in control of its dispense.
Dot: lyrically it’s reference to thoughts of self harm and the psyche’s darkness experienced in the depths of mental health illness such as the widespread prevalence of conditions such as depression and anxiety in disproportionate amounts in modern society . Referencing the loss of ones rational self, when deep inside one’s own head-speak, Comparable to the drops within the depths of an ocean, and drowning in that sea of murky waters. signifying the despair and helplessness felt when all options seem pointless.
Ominous: the progressive destruction of this planets resources, referencing the disregard for respectful relationship with the fragile systems supporting life. An extinction event in the horizon with hypotheticals around its ultimate demise.
Zombie cum : in a post covid world where the speculation around the depopulation agenda is realized via the introduction of a new and more potent virus, used as a weapon of control. The reality of illness and mass hysteria as a catalyst for the chaos unleashing upon the planet, rendering all humans incapacitated and powerless (like zombies) Also referencing the ultimate demise of our species which by deception and default, surrenders to an imposed sterilization process undertaken by our governments and ‘friends’ in high places via their usual covert mean of actioning their agendas.
Eat your entrails : cannibalism, a not so subtle reference to ‘Soylent green’ … the food chain ends here… a result of a devastated planets resources , and a last desperate attempt for survival by preying on your own, when there is nothing left,… also synonymous with the agony and guilt felt when ruminating on the ways in which this depravity played out in your own world, ‘eating one’s heart out’ for want of that which has evaded common sense and led to the individual plight. Symbolically, the title essentially describes the effects of a rabid society whose sufferance manifests as survival of the fittest in physically and emotionally in a post apocalyptic world.
Your mum sucks crack in hell:
Another reference to. The Exorcist” but this plays on the phrase “your mother sucks cocks in hell”.. a satirical poke at the crack culture and its prevalence amongst a society devoid of many pleasures left, with the connotations that this particular drug is more destructible drive than others, often misconstrued as to be more satanic than other drugs of choice..including the legal ones. A hypothetical around the control of illegal drugs by certain factions within our communities and its deeply connected overlords in high places… the solution to the bigger issue of its control and distribution is an obvious one, that many a politician is unwilling to action.
