(1) Could you tell our readers about your band Darklore ? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?
Raivendark – Our music carries the aggression of black and death metal coupled with melodic and orchestral melodies. Our song structures are unique and epic in length
and we have put everything into our live performance to really emphasize our theatrical side. 100% immersion is our goal. I started forming Darklore in 2013 with our first live performance beginning in May 2015.
(2) Which bands or artists inspired you to play music?
Luna – Enfiserum, Dimmu Borgir, Amon Amarth, Korn.
Hargoth – My inspirations have changed throughout my life. Bands like Iron Maiden, Cradle of filth, Dimmu and Behemoth were big for me as a little kid as I grew up with these. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve shifted much more towards black metal bands. Summoning, Bethlehem, Ancient, to name a few off the top of my head.
Raivendark – My biggest inspiration by far is Iron Maiden, without them, Darklore simply wouldn’t exist. Some other bands that have inspired my journey are Domine, Nightwish, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and many, many more from atmospheric black to triumphant power metal.
(3) Who came up with the cover art for the album The Great Elven War?
Raivendark – It was really a collective decision, we decided that The Great Elven War was overall the best fit, as it is an original story, sounds powerful and just captures us and our music – Blackened Fantasy perfectly! But we must give a big shout out to our artist Pzychopart, who always brings our visions to life through his incredibly dark and epic style.
(4) Who wrote the lyrics for your new album, how did they come to be?
Raivendark – A collective effort, I write most lyrics however, Wrath of the High Heavens was a joint effort with Luna and our drummer at the time Shades, wrote the lyrics for The Beast of Beauclair. All of our songs/lyrics keep within the fantasy genre, usually after a song structure has formed, I get a good idea on what the song could be about.
(5) Who created the logo for the band, and who takes care of the graphics and the website?
Raivendark – Our logo was inspired by Sauron from The Lord of the Rings, we wanted something that looks like it came from Mordor and was brought to life again by the incredible work of Pzychopart.
(6) How many Shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether (Venues or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
Luna – Festivals are a great way to capture new fans as the crowd is very diverse. Questfest in Canberra was one of our most fun and memorable shows.
Hargoth – We’ve played quite a lot of shows over the years. It’s hard to pick a favourite or best as so many of them are very memorable for different reasons. I’d say our best show is always our next show as we constantly strive to make each show more grand and epic than the last!
Raivendark – We make sure that every show we do is spectacular and better then the last! Festivals are great for exposure, but there is always something to be said about the smaller shows too, where the fans and energy are simply aligned for us, pure magic! We recently had the honour to open for Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum in Brisbane, the exposure was amazing, the crowd had a great time and we got to show off some of the tracks on this album!
(7) What is your songwriting process?
Luna – Raivendark is the mastermind. He takes everyone’s riffs and ideas and turns it into a flawless masterpiece.
Hargoth – As a caveman bassist I just write riffs then give them to Lord Commander Raivendark to weave into songs.
Raivendark – A joint effort from everyone, Hargoth and Luna both wrote some epic riffs for this album! Our ex-members at the time, Shades, came up with some great creative ideas for the drum work, and Ithil on keys wrote many incredible orchestral melodies. I also need to mention our producer Kalen Austin, who pushed us to max level in getting the very best from us!
(8) How would you describe your band’s unique sound?
Luna – It’s like the theme song for when you ride into an epic battle.
Hargoth – Melodic Blackened Death Thrash Epic Symphonic Nerd Fantasy Metal. It’s Blackened and Epic inspired by the Dark Lore of fantasy universes/games/stories we enjoy.
(9) What are the main themes or messages in your lyrics?
Raivendark – All themes and no messages for us! The lyrics retell tales from our favourite, movies, shows, games, books and more. Dark fantasy and epic war! All of which has inspired us greatly.
(10) Do you have endorsements that you want to talk about or share?
Raivendark – No endorsements at this point in time.
(11) Would you like to share any shows or festivals coming up?
Raivendark – For our fans and anyone else in the Brisbane region and surrounding, mark Saturday the 28th of February down in your calendar as the day that Darklore triumphs in battle once more! Keep your eyes on our page for announcements!
