Interview with Beleth

(1) Could you tell our readers about your band Beleth ? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?

We’re a groove driven death metal band from Australia. We started out during the Covid lockdowns in 2020 as a duo recording band and released our first album, Silent Genesis, through Wormholedeath Records in 2021.
(2) Which bands or artists inspired you to play music?

For me personally, when I was younger, bands like Metallica, Pantera, Sepultura, Slipknot, Coal Chamber, White Zombie, all inspired me to learn bass and electric guitar and start writing my own songs.

(3) Who came up with the cover art for the Single Abysmal Mind?

The cover art was just something me and Seb came across that we both liked and suited the concept and darkness of the song. The title of the artwork was ‘Cycle Of Suffering’ which suited the concept of the song and we both loved it visually. I think we bought it through MetalCover.art?

(4) Who wrote the lyrics for your new Single, how did they come to be?

The lyrics were written by our original vocalist, Seb. His lyrics delved deeply into conversations you have with yourself while looking in the mirror, not liking what you see in the reflection, and your reaction to the meat suit we are all in. Everyone has their bad days, loathing what we are, and the smallest things that can send us down a rabbit hole of emotions. The wanting to get out of this state of being, and feeling, and the frustrations that come with it.

(5) Who created the logo for the band, and who takes care of the graphics and the website?

The logo we didn’t create ourselves. In demonology Beleth is a king of Hell, commanding 85 legions of demon spirits. He’s usually seen riding a pale horse with all kinds of music heard before him. So we used the Seal Of Beleth emblem, and thought that would be a cool logo. As for the general graphics and website, that’s usually me. Apart from album and single covers that we usually source from artists.

(6) How many Shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether (Venues or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

We’re purely a recording band at the moment, so we haven’t played and live shows yet. Hopefully some time in the future we can get a full band together and play some shows.

(7) What is your songwriting process?

Basically I’ll start with a guitar riff I’ve written and then evolve and build a song around that on guitar. Once I’ve got the demo of a song recorded on guitar and bass, the drums will then be written and recorded. With Abysmal Mind, the demo was sent to Robin Stone, and he wrote and recorded the drum tracks for it. After that I recorded the final bass and guitar tracks and sent the demo track off to Seb to record his vocals. Once everything was recorded it all went off to Mike at EOL Studios for mixing and mastering.

(8) How would you describe your band’s sound?

It’s hard to say, because everyone perceives music differently. But for me it’s groovy death metal with elements of eery darkness and melody.

(9) What are the main themes or messages in your lyrics?

So far there’s been nothing specific in the way of messages, but I guess the overall themes are mostly the occult and dark natured perspectives.

(10) Do you have endorsements that you want to talk about or share?

No. Our first album was released through Wormholedeath Records, but currently we plan to release everything independently.

(11) Would you like to share any shows or festivals coming up?

Fuck all for us! Dying Fetus and 200 Stab Wounds are touring Australia in December though! Keen!

(12) How and where can your fans contact you? What about you and social networks?

Probably our Facebook page and email are the best bet for contact.
