1. Could you tell our readers about your band, Reverya? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?
We are a 3-piece melodic metalcore band from Florida, formed in 2022. We write heavy, ethereal, dreamy, conceptual music. We have our 2023 sleep EP, Melinoe, and our 2024 flower album, Affliction in Bloom.
2. Which bands or artists inspired you to play music?
All three of us have been inspired by so many different bands and artists over the years and throughout our individual journeys with our instruments, but around the time of our formation, some big inspirations for us were Spiritbox, Jinjer, and Invent Animate.
3. Who came up with the cover art for the album Affliction in Bloom?
The cover art was painted by me (Nadine – vocals). I wanted a watercolor bouquet of all the flowers we named our songs after, so I decided to try to learn as best I could because I also really wanted to get into painting at the time. I feel like this album is my baby, so I was very determined to paint something myself that we could use.
4. Who wrote the lyrics for your new album, and how did they come to be?
I wrote pretty much all the lyrics, with some help from Travis and Kaleb here and there — specifically on Pyrophyte and Asphodel they helped me. I love lyrics, and the process for how they come to be is different for every song, but generally, it takes a lot of quiet sitting and thinking, writing, revisiting, and rewriting. For Wisteria, I found a book that helped me write those lyrics. Pyro was really hard and required the most help from the guys. FMN came purely from my heart, same with Dahlia. Asphodel’s lyrics are based on a personal tragedy that Travis and I worked on together, and Magnolia is for my grandmother, who passed away in 2020.
5. Who created the logo for the band, and who takes care of the graphics and the website?
Our logo was designed by Karissa Pasquarella, a wonderful artist based in New York. You can find her on Instagram @kpasquarellagraphics.
As far as graphics, we have worked with many different photographers for promo photos, show photos, and video. Maria at Black Card Films shot both our music videos for Dahlia and Wisteria, as well as some promo and show photos. Just a few photographers we love to work with are Jackson Tujo, Tori Silva, Josh Frato, Phallany Burgess, our friend Trevor, and so many others. All of them are featured on our Instagram @reveryamusic.
I take care of our social media, and Travis keeps up with our website.
6. How many shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer (venues or festivals), and which of your performances would you consider the best?
Our first show was in mid-August 2024, so we’ve been playing for just over a year now, and I believe at this point we have played around 20 shows. I love any show where I look into the crowd and see people having fun. If I ever see anyone singing along, that’s my favorite. I consider it a good show if people seem to vibe with us and we leave the stage feeling good about our performance. We have yet to play a festival, but we are hoping for that opportunity soon!
7. What is your songwriting process?
It really is different for every song, so it’s hard to answer. Sometimes I have an idea for a concept, and then we write the instrumental around that. Sometimes Travis will just write riffs, and the concept comes to me later. Sometimes I have lyrics; sometimes I start with a piano piece or synth thing. It really just depends. The writing process was different for each of our songs, but once we had enough songs that fit together for the flower theme, we grouped them all together and went from there to continue writing with that direction in mind.
8. How would you describe your band’s unique sound?
I have been saying we are a conceptual, dreamy metalcore band. We think a lot about the atmosphere we’re trying to create by adding sounds that make sense for each song. I think that’s something special that makes our sound unique.
9. What are the main themes or messages in your lyrics?
On Affliction in Bloom, in my mind, it’s split into three different segments: Wisteria & Pyro – the generational despair songs; FMN & Dahlia – the heartbreak songs; Asphodel & Magnolia – the loss/grief songs. To me, the lyrics all come from a personal place, but I wanted to leave them as open to interpretation as possible, so however someone connects with the words I say is wonderful to me.
10. Do you have endorsements that you want to talk about or share?
Not at the moment, but hopefully soon in the future!
11. Would you like to share any shows or festivals coming up?
Unfortunately, we don’t have anything coming up just yet, but that will change, so follow us on social media for updates!
