(1)Could you tell our readers about your band Rave In Fire? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?
Rave in Fire was formed in 2015 in Madrid, Spain, by members Jimy (drums) and Jonjo (guitar). Together with earlier bandmates, they recorded their first EP, Chronicle of a Timeless End. After going through several lineup changes, the band finally settled into its current and stable formation in 2020 with the arrival of Sele (vocals) and Sara (bass). This gives the band a whole new perspective and thrust to compose a more ambitious album that gathers all the musicality and power from each of the new members. That was “Sons of a lie”, a completely self-produced album.
On January 30th, we released our new record, “Square One”, after signing with High Roller Records. The album has been very well received and is earning strong reviews both in Spain and internationally. Like our previous LP, it was self-produced by our guitarist and producer, Jonjo Negrete.
(2)Which bands or artists inspired you to play music?
Some of our main influences include Warlock, Loudness, and Dio, but also classic bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. At the same time, being eclectic listeners in music allows us to create our own sound while still staying true to heavy metal.
(3)Who came up with the cover art for the album Square One?
We spoke with Tau Fernandez about creating the album cover based on the idea we had for this record. The artwork is full of details, including elements taken from several songs on the album. One very clear example is the starry night, which is a direct reference to “Crown of Stars”. We encourage people to take a closer look at the different elements after listening to the lyrics of the record.
(4)Who wrote the lyrics for your new album Square One, how did they come to be?
All the songs were written by Sele, except for the title track, Square One, which was written by Jimi.
(5) Who created the logo for the band Rave In Fire, and who takes care of the graphics and the website?
Our logo was designed by the artist Mario López, based on an earlier concept created some time ago by our old friend Javier Pastor who created the first version that appeared on our EP.
(6) How many Shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether (Venues or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
We’ve played in many cities across Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Almería, Burgos, Zaragoza, Albacete, Murcia…and in August 2024, we made our international debut in Germany at the Trveheim festival.
As for whether we prefer festivals or clubs, honestly, both have their good and bad sides. Playing festivals is an honor, you get to be seen by a lot of people, gain exposure, and have unique experiences. On the other hand, playing in clubs has a more intimate vibe, which makes it feel more personal and enjoyable in a different way.
(7) What is your songwriting process for the album Square One?
It’s been a tough but really rewarding process. For this album, we worked kind of like we did on the previous LP. Most songs start with ideas from Jonjo (sometimes just a couple of riffs, sometimes something more structured) and from there we build the rest. But it’s not always like that: for example, Speed and Rave came from a drum pattern, and Square One actually started as lyrics with a simple vocal melody.
We all record our parts in Jonjo’s studio, and even though we have to record the drums somewhere else for logistical reasons, having a studio at our disposal all the time lets us experiment and even improvise a bit. That’s what helps the songs sound fresh and alive.
(8) Who would you most like to collaborate with?
One of the bands we’d love to collaborate with is our fellow Spaniards Hitten. We’d also be excited to do something with bands like Skull Fist or Enforcer. Additionally, we have our friends Wildhard, with whom we’ve shared several stages, and we’d love to do something together.
(9)What are the main themes or messages in your lyrics?
Our songs deal with topics such as our own experiences and frustrations, social criticism and our relationship with music and the world of entertainment. These ideas come from whatever we feel the need to express at each moment.
(10)Do you have endorsements that you want to talk about or share?
Of course, there are plenty of Spanish bands today that are really worth checking out. Besides the already mentioned Hitten and Wildhard, we’d also recommend Witchtower, Raveshark, Crimson Storm, Iron Curtain, Frenzy, Leather Heart, Crisix and others.
(11) Would you like to share any shows or festivals coming up?
For now, we only have shows scheduled in Spain. On March 27th, we’ll be playing in our hometown, Madrid, but we’re working on booking gigs outside of Spain as well. As soon as we can, we’ll share the dates on our social media.
(12) How and where can your fans contact you? What about you and social networks?
Our fans usually reach out to us on Instagram or Facebook, either through direct messages or by commenting on our posts. We make an effort to keep our social media active to show our work and let people know about gigs and other news. Right now, it’s the main way we promote ourselves and put our work out there.
