Interview with Blazoner

(1) Could you tell our readers about your band Blazoner? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?

We are a metal band out of Fredericksburg, Virginia and we were established in early 2023. We have three members in the band: Stephen Sullivan on guitars/vocals, Brian Carnes on bass/vocals and Andy Murray on drums/vocals.

(2)Which bands or artists inspired you to play music?

All different types of bands, artists and different kinds of music. We grew up in the 80s and 90s so it’s fair to say that we got a pretty healthy dose of alternative and heavier music, but we’re definitely not limited to that. Everything from Elvis Presley, Beach boys ,Melvin’s and weedeater to 70s Prog and a sprinkle of new wave!

(3) Who came up with the cover art for the EP Sonic Chambers?

The cover art was done by Brian Carnes using the original Blazoner logo and kind of giving it a feel of a distressed picture or vinyl record. Since sonic chambers is a covers EP with some songs dating back to the 60s and 70s we thought that was the perfect vibe.

(4) Who wrote the lyrics for your new EP, Sonic Chambers, how did they come to be?

Well, sonic Chambers is a collection of cover songs that we play live at our shows sometimes. So those songs are originally written by Rolling Stones, Queen, Genesis, Melvins and Mountain. We definitely had to make the singing and the entire feel of the songs our own style being that it was definitely going to be heavier, but we really tried to pay homage to the original artists and those songs.

(5) Who created the logo for the band Blazoner, and who takes care of the graphics and the website?

Brian used some basic online design techniques to come up with that. We have used that logo for two years now and I think it is here to stay. For now anyway.

(6) How many Shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether (Venues or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

We’ve probably played 50 or 60 shows as Blazoner at this point. Honestly it’s hard to keep count.
We have been in multiple different projects for 25 years and so I’m sure collectively it’s ALOT more than that.
I personally prefer festivals. Festivals are always fun. Tons of bands and a built in crowd!

(7) What is your songwriting process for the EP, Sonic Chambers?

Well this is a covers EP so we didn’t really have to write anything song wise but we did have to play these songs our way. We did some different arrangements and tunings and stuff. So even though they are cover songs, it is still a Blazoner record. Covers have always been a part of Blazoner sets live. Even our first show had numerous covers. They are a lot of fun and if they are done right can make the show!

(8) Who would you most like to collaborate with?

That’s is a tough question. There are so many.
I’d personally like for Elvis Presley to sing for Blazoner.

(9) What are the main themes or messages in your lyrics?

Attempting to find some sort of common ground. Diverse respect. Good and evil spiritual storytelling. Mental euphoria and anguish. Expressions of displeasure or pleasure with certain situations. The song tells you what words fit, and they are arranged in a way that will hopefully resonate with the universe. Same as any guitar part or drum fill. From there, it’s about delivery and engagement.

(10) Do you have endorsements that you want to talk about or share?

No endorsements to speak of.

(11)Would you like to share any shows or festivals coming up?

Saturday, March 7 in Martinsburg, WV at Tilty McFlippers. Part of “The Thaw” one-day festival along with 10 or so other killer bands around the region.

April 18-25 we will be doing a mini-tour around some of our neighboring states. Including an appearance at the Fuzzy Pig Festival in Indiana.

Friday, May 22 we’ll be playing at O’Shaughnessy’s in Alexandria, VA.
Saturday, June 6 return to Martinsburg, WV
