(1) Could you tell our readers about your band Drofnosura ? – What kind of music do you perform, when was it established, etc.?
Drofnosura as an entity began to take shape in 2010. We are a fusion of various genres across the extreme metal spectrum ranging from sludge metal to black metal creating a sound that we refer to as cosmic noise and ambient voids.
(2) Which bands do you idolize and where do you get your inspiration?
Various inspirations have come and gone over the years, but there are a number of bands that we still hold close, which are: Neurosis, Acid Bath, Triptykon/Celtic Frost and Leviathan. The adventurous spirit of these bands are an inspiration for us to push the limits of our own sound. In recent years, we have also been inspired by projects like Oranssi Pazuzu, Waste of Space Orchestra and Thantifaxath, anything that flirts with a dark psychedelia.
(3) Who came up with the album cover?
We worked in collaboration with Dusty Ray (slopjockey_ert), who we also worked with on our 2019 album “Voidfever”, to bring our vision for “Ritual of Split Tongues” to life.
(4) Who wrote the lyrics for your album, how did they come to be?
D.A.S. and W.L.F. collaborated for the lyrics. Over the course of writing for the album, we spent time researching death rites from different cultures across the globe and from these rituals we were able to derive the deeper symbolic meanings and apply them to our own personal experiences and struggles.
(5) Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks?
The initial sketch for the current logo was done by W.LF. and then modified and improved upon by Xhensila Zemblaku. For our socials and our personal Bandcamp, Xhensila did the graphics and embedding. Social media is a bit of a double edged sword, while it has given us the ability to connect with a wider group of people, It often feels like we’re speaking into the void.
(6) How many Shows have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether (venues or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?
We’re not a band that’s ever been known for a regular live presence, so to date, we’ve only played 46 shows. We hope opportunities to play places we’ve never been to emerge. Both venues and festivals have pros and cons, but we have more experience playing bars and clubs than festivals. However, we recently closed out the first night of Crookedfest playing outside in the Canadian wilderness under celestial bodies…that was an unforgettable experience.
(7) who came up with the name of the album?
This was a line written by W.LF. which we lifted from Avidya off our 2019 album “Voidfever”.
